About Sarah Knight Davis

Born 1984

Lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia

Sarah Knight Davis interrogates the intimate sense of self, particularly as it pertains to girlhood, womanhood, and motherhood. Her oil paintings depict surreal narratives that pivot around motifs influenced from historic Gothic painting and the artist’s upbringing in the American South. Resisting resolution, instead her paintings offer an open-ended space of contemplation where tenderness mingles with the awkward, and innocence gives way to disquiet.

Davis graduated with a B.F.A. in Fashion Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2008, and received a certificate in Graphic Design from the Parsons School of Design, a division of the New School, in 2017. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, young daughter, and dog she rescued out of a sewer.
